Love is a powerful force that can lift us into heaven and bring us back in agony. Stories of those tales are meant to be alluring no matter how superficial it feels. Heartbreak, pain, and gut-wrenching emotions that come with it are time and again explored by literature, art, and cinema. Laila Manju adapted from the Persian narrative poem "Layla and Majnun" offers a fresh take on the classic timeless tale of love.

One day when scrolling through my Instagram I saw something that brought a sense of curiosity in me. The film Laila Majnu has yet again released on 9th August. This movie has always been on my long lost list so instead of procrastinating it further I made it a point to finally watch the movie. Presented by Imtiaz Ali this enchanting love story is all about unconditional love and the extreme insanity surrounding it. It was one of those movies that take you to the dazzling land of Kashmir along with the soulful journey of these star-crossed lovers.

Laila (Tripti Dimri) is a modern girl who is a little flirty and a Bollywood-obsessed person. Qais (Avinash Tiwary) is a rich spoiled brat who has a bad reputation in society. The meeting of these two creates a bond instantly and transcribes into a love story of the times. The first half of the movie is all about chasing, stalking, and finally confessing their love for each other. It's the separation that creates havoc in their story causing Laila to marry someone else while driving Qais to the land of absurdity.

Every filmmaker has a distinct way of storytelling but only a few can wander in the complexities of the human heart with such depth and ability as Imtiaz Ali. With Laila Majnu, Imtiaz has created a tale of love where each character digs deep into our soul creating an everlasting impact. His unique style- a blend of raw emotions, character arc, and poetic dialogues transforms this timeless tapestry into a personal journey for each viewer.

The movie directed by Sajid Ali is not about all those grand moments of love but the subtle moments in between, the looks exchanged, and all those unspoken words amid pain. His approach of bringing together every element of the film be it the breathtaking cinematography, the performances, or the soul-stirring music is what lingers even after the credits roll into the screen. Every line, character, and journey feels so personal as if the story of Laila Majnu unfolds within us.

At the heart of this mesmerizing retelling of Laila Majnu stands both Avinash and Tripti who have managed to create a strong impression with their detailed performances. Tiwari is truly a star material who brings Majnu's character to life with every fiber in his body. His raw emotions and portrayal of those agonizing moments are so profound that it forces audiences to experience all his pain and suffering. The moments when his character creates an imaginary persona and starts to dive into insanity are a testament to the actor in him. He makes sure that his journey is deeply felt and not observed.

Damri, on the other hand, depicts the strength and purity of Laila's love with much grace and resilience. It is her first film as an actor and despite that, she has managed to portray the pain and separation that persuades us to drown in the pool of her emotions. Together their chemistry has created a story that is not only seen but felt deeply by each one of them glued to their screens.

Laila Majnu is incomplete with its exquisite cinematography where each frame is painted with vivid colors of passion and hues of despair which compliments the storytelling. Each landscape is a character whispering secrets of this timeless tale to all those people who wander within. Along with this stunning view is the music which transcends you into another world. Niladri Kumar, Joi Barua, and Irshad Kamil have successfully created an album that surely be recalled this instant. From the bloom to heartbreak each song has managed to resonate the emotions within us. Together with all this visual and soul-stirring music this movie creates a magical experience that elevates the story taking it to newer heights.

Even though the film is a bit modernized it still manages to accomplish the truthfulness and the divinity of the original story. It keeps the soul of the movie intact. It makes you fall in love with Laila again and again. This adaptation makes you feel happy and then lets you struggle with all that crazy madness making you fall in love with this tale. So if you are in for a classic love story then Laila Majnu is the kind of movie you need to re-watch again on the big screens.
