3 Malayalam Thriller Picks You Should Add to Your Watchlist
I know I promised you three Malayalam thriller picks, and yes, I did watch all three last week! But then Jailer fever hit, and well… these recommendations got pushed down the list. 😂
But better late than never, right? I'm finally back with Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar, EYES, and Aasha — three very different thriller picks, each with something that caught my attention. From edge-of-your-seat twists to a brilliant concept and a performance that left me speechless, there's plenty to talk about.
So, let's get into what I felt about each one and whether they're worth adding to your watchlist.
1. Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar — A Thriller That Keeps You Guessing
Honestly, this one had me hooked! What begins as a scuffle at a police station spirals into a cover-up involving four officers. But with Crime Branch officer Harris Meeran (Vijayaraghavan) on the case, do they really stand a chance of getting away with it?
The middle might leave you wondering what’s going on, but the climax? Absolutely unbelievable! The twists gave me chills, especially the emotional side of a mother willing to do anything to protect her child.
And the cast deserves a special mention! Parvathy Thiruvothu and Vijayaraghavan are terrific, and the supporting performances make this thriller even more compelling.
My verdict: A brilliant Malayalam thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. Definitely worth watching!
2. EYES — A Brilliant Concept, but Does It Stick the Landing?
Stalking is often taken lightly until it turns into something far more dangerous. EYES explores this disturbing reality through a team that identifies and monitors people reported for stalking, using surveillance, counselling, and other measures to prevent future crimes.
What I loved was the idea itself. It raises an important question: what happens when warning signs are ignored and no real action is taken? The performances are another highlight, with the cast doing a brilliant job of bringing the story to life.
However, somewhere along the way, I felt the series lost its grip. The premise was genuinely promising, but the climax didn't quite deliver the impact I was hoping for.
My verdict: Worth checking out for its unique concept and strong performances, even if the execution could have been better.
3. Aasha — Urvashi, Absolutely Mind-Blowing!
Oh, Aasha! Where do I even begin?
At its heart, this thriller explores a mother's fierce, almost frightening protectiveness towards her children. What begins as a seemingly minor clash of egos spirals into something unimaginable. And trust me, you probably won't see some of it coming.
But the real showstopper here is Urvashi. Her performance is simply phenomenal. She brings such intensity to the character that you find yourself trying to understand her, even when her actions leave you questioning everything. No exaggeration, I genuinely struggled to find the words to describe how brilliantly she pulls it off.
Aishwarya Lekshmi, who plays her daughter, Anagha, also does a good job, but Urvashi absolutely owns the screen for me.
My verdict: If you enjoy Malayalam thrillers driven by powerful performances and emotionally complicated characters, Aasha deserves a place on your watchlist.
So, Which One Are You Watching First?
Three Malayalam thriller picks, three very different experiences. Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar kept me guessing, EYES impressed me with its concept, and Aasha left me in awe of Urvashi's performance.
