But what if some of them are cursed and to be forgotten at times? Dinjith Ayyathan's directorial executes this narrative with memory being the core element of the film. With Bahul Ramesh's excellent screenwriting and cinematography, this film is surely one of the best thriller movies released this year.  When Ajaychandran aka Ajayan(Asif Ali) returns home after his registered marriage with his newlywed wife Aparna(Aparna Balamurli) we see police officers at his home questioning Appu Pillai(Vijayraghavan) his father about the gun that needs to be surrendered during the election time. Time and memory are both a crucial factor that helps in remembering the chain of events that have occurred in a particular time factor. But what happens when memory fails to travel to the end? Filmmaker Avinash Arun has tried to capture the broken pieces of Shailaja(Shefali Shah), which contains a memory to which she has closed the doors.

The story is about a Shailaja Patankar a middle-aged woman suffering from dementia who deeply desires to go to Vengurla, a small town in Konkan. She tells her wish to her husband Swanand Kirkire (Dipankar Desai) who decides to accompany her on this week-long trip. She starts seeking out all those places, people, and feelings before it's too late. It leads her to find the name of a man named Pradeep Kamat (Jaideep Ahlawat) her incomplete childhood love who later shows the couple around.

The journey begins with Shailaja visiting her school accompanied by her husband and friends. While visiting the classroom one of the friends talks about how small the classrooms are and is perplexed on how they adjusted in their school days. The other one says that it is because of how big-hearted we are as kids. This simplicity and deep thoughts are shared so subtle that it makes one wonder how talented the filmmaker is.

The incomplete lover Pradeep starts to show the couple the places with which Shailaja has a connection. Her old house where she has some of her memories she shares with her sister. It is also a place that makes her vulnerable and emotionally drained. She visits her teacher who describes her as a naughty child. The poetic description of the photograph as a drawing of lights is such a dazzling moment that it teaches you the depth of each word.

The word Udgam- the origin of the something is so beautifully depicted when Pradeep starts writing poems again. His wife Sarika (Kadambari Kadam) is such a pure soul who asks her husband to be the person Shailaja wants him to be. When Shailaja visits Pradeep's home the interaction between her and Sarika is a heartwarming moment where Sarika herself is happy that at least someone decides to follow their hearts.

All of these moments finally evoke the complexity in the mind of Swanand. He is dumbfounded to realize that his wife has never shared all these moments with him. He starts to question the relationship he shares with her. Shailaja makes him understand that with all those passing years their relationship has taken a turn. They both have changed as people and these moments that she has now are what make her happy.

The final ride of Shailaja with Pradeep on the rollercoaster is something that broke me into pieces. Pradeep finally uncovering the truth of how important it was for Shailaja to return to the starting point of her life is a moment of nerve-wracking. The entire scene is so full of feelings that at one point you are literally crying and at another point, you are smiling widely. The return of Shailja to the place where she lost her sister finally makes her free from the shackles of her past.

There are times in the movie when you start thinking if it is like a farewell to Shailaja's memories. The scenes of forgetting her son and the dance moves clearly show the fear in the eyes of Shailaja. Each gesture made by Shefali in the moments of fear and being lost is magic to watch. The void it creates in Pradeep's mind when he realizes the reason for his past to come again is effortlessly shown by  Jaideep. The husband is disturbed and yet tries to understand the peace of mind that his wife needs. Finally, Sarika the character played by Kadambari has my heart as she truly understands Shailaja the most.

The title 'Three Of Us' is based on Shailaja, Pradeep, and Swanand, and the change they all see in her. But it seems like it is based on the complexities of the past, present, and future of Shailaja. A heartwarming story that tugs through your heart, keeps you grinning and makes you think deep down in your soul. Want to give this movie a chance then get your Netflix subscription now.
