Have you ever thought of what would happen if Sherlock Holmes shifted his streets of London with the vibrant city of Calcutta then - Shekhar Homes streaming on Jio Cinemas is your stop. Shekhar Home created by Aniruddha Guha and Sriijit Mukherji and directed by Mukherji and Rohan Sippy is a compelling and brilliantly crafted series inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. In this spinning tale, we are introduced to a sharp and lively sleuth Shekar Home who will take you on a thrilling ride with his keen observations and love for decoding cases.

The story set in the 90's unravels in the serene town of Lonpur, West Bengal Shekhar(Kay Kay Menon) helps solve a murder case with Inspector Laha (Rudranil Ghosh) after 15 years of peace. He finds an unexpected confidant in his new roommate Jayavrat Saini (Ranvir Shorey) an ex-army doctor who helps in solving cases from blackmailing, murder and even supernatural occurrences. Along this journey, his brother Mrinmoy (Kaushik Sen) also becomes an ally and together the exhilarating ride comes along.

This six-part series hooks the viewers from the start of the episode with 40- 45 minutes of riveting storytelling. Shekar's sharp intellect is his greatest weapon in the world where crime and criminals take over suddenly. The revelation is so gripping when the presence of character 'M' comes into the light you come to know about Moriarty the arch nemesis of Holmes in the original series. To know who is the character you guys need to watch and figure it out.

Kay Kay Menon as Shekar Homes is an excellent choice as he sure is a sight to watch. With easily slipping into the character of an investigator it almost feels like he has been investigating cases for years in the land of Calcutta. His portrayal brilliantly captures the peculiarity and the genius mind with a dash of humour. And his you surely will be smiling on the revelations of his own quirkiness even before you comprehend it.

Ranvir Shorey as Jayavrat is nothing less than brilliance added with a dose of wacky personality added. He seems to be the perfect assistant oh sorry like Jayavrat says he is the perfect partner to Shekhar who balances the detective wackiness with his grounded reality. Kaushik Sen as Mrinmoy is the perfect sibling who reminds the Mycroft-Sherlock dynamic as in the originals. It would be more interesting if Mrinmoy did more mocking towards Shekhar to add some more spice to the plot.

Rasika Dugal as Iravati is like a mystery that unfolds at its best. A character that creates a sense of puzzle and a certain charm that surely reminds you of Irene Adler. The moment she steps into the frame, it seems like Shekhar has lost all his clues and cases somewhere in the air. The only woman who caught his attention along his dramatic ride. And yes she is the only one who can outsmart the sharp Shekhar and leave us in awe.

Kaushik Sen as Laha is a character who you know is not a match to Shekhar's intellect but you know that without him the series will surely feel incomplete. No matter who solves the case at the end you sure will be rooting for him. This character is surely going to remind you of the clumsy cop Lestrade who surely is not to be missed. Shernaz Patel as Mrs. H will surely remind you of Mrs. Hudson is the perfect housekeeper and keeps Shekhar down to earth. Not to forget Kriti Kulhari who plays Mumtaz leaves you puzzling till the end.

The makers Rohan Sippy and Sriijit Mukherjee have perfectly blended the original series by infusing exact Bengali seasoning in it. Whenever there is a mention of Calcutta Rabindranath Tagore is a necessary element. In this plot, too Tagore becomes an essential and plays a major part in the events of disclosure. The hype around the character 'M' leaves you guessing till the end with a twist that leaves you spellbound.

The cinematography and the music add another touch to this Bengali representation of the classic original. The visuals of the bustling streets and the charm create a perfect mood for the detective series. Hidden alleys and the freeway make you feel like you too are walking along Shekhar to get along all the clues on the way. The music on the other hand is the silent hero of the series that subtly creates tension and brilliantly compliments the unwinding drama.

Shekhar Home is the perfect rendition of the Sherlock Homes chronicle that shines in the performance, culture and ultimate direction which keeps you wanting for more. It may not tick all the boxes but still is a solid start in the detective saga. So sharpen your wit and bring out your curious mind as it is surely going for the next season. Until then you guys keep streaming Shekar Home only on Jio Cinemas.
